Erivulla Malli Masala Kozhi Curry / Spicy Coriander Masala Chicken Curry Kerala Style

A simple and spicy chicken curry that goes well with Indian Rotis. This is one of my signature dish. It has a perfect blend of spices. For everyone who loves Kerala style spicy chicken curry, this is an easy chicken curry.

Chicken is marinated in yoghurt and then slow cooked along with masala. The addition of ground coconut makes the gravy thick and perfect combination with chapathi or naan.

Recipe: My own

Chicken - 1kg cleaned & cut into medium size pieces
Yoghurt - 1/4 cup
Ginger Paste - 1 tbsp
Salt - 1 tsp or as required
Onion - 1 cup finely chopped
Garlic Paste - 1 tbsp
Green Chilly - 1 split
Coriander Powder - 9 tbsp
Meat Masala - 4 tsp
Oil - 2 tbsp
Water - 1 cup
Garam Masala - 1/4 tsp
Thick Ground Coconut - 1/4 cup
Pepper Powder - 1/4 tsp
Curry Leaves - 1 sprig
Coriander Leaves - 1/4 cup
Mint - 6 leaves

Marinate the chicken in yoghurt, ginger paste and salt. Mix well with hands and keep aside for 1/2 hour.
In a pressure pan, heat oil. Add in the onions. Saute till slightly brown.
Add in the garlic paste and stir well.
Tip in the coriander masala and meat masala. Keep flame to low and saute well till the raw smell is gone. You can add in 2 tbsp water at this stage.
Now add in the chicken and saute for 3-4 minutes till the masala is well coated in the chicken.
Add in the remaining water. Add the required salt.
Strip the leaves from the curry leaves sprig. Add it to the chicken.
Close the lid and turn the flame to high.
When the steam starts coming from the nozzle place the weight and reduce flame to low.
Cook until you hear 2 whistles. Turn off flame.
Once the steam is gone open the lid. Stir slowly. Switch on flame to medium.
Add in thick ground coconut, garam masala and pepper powder.
Once it comes to a boil let cook for a minute.
Add in the coriander and mint.
Serve hot with Indian rotis of your choice.

This is a spicy curry. Increase or reduce depending on spice tolerance.
